stellie: (new who)
I refuse to say anything during pledge of allegiance anywhere. The whole of the United States in general does not know the proper way to chant the pledge and I will not lower myself to be drowned out by ill begotten pledgers who just mumble the words like everyone else.

THERE IS NO PAUSE BETWEEN JUSTICE AND UNDER GOD.

I will stand up. I will place my hand over my heart (your heart is slightly center, not completely left people!) and look towards the flag, as it stands for freedom and it has stood for such for quite a long time. And I respect that.

I'm not a christian. But I do have a sort of 'faith'. And that, my friend, is the belief in people. It's hard to keep a belief like that when no one around you can get anything right, even something so simple as a pledge. Then again, it's always easy to have a belief like that -- as long as you believe that people will be people and they fuck up most of the time. No one is perfect, not even me. But I can, at least, get the pledge right the first time =\ (I cannot, however, out-shout anyone... and people look at you funny when you chant loudly "ONE NATION UNDER DOG UNDEREDUCATED AND SHOELACES FOR ALL.")

/rant. Brought to you today by the letter D, the user [livejournal.com profile] droid and the complete recollection of my disgust during the pledge-saying at the lobster's graduation last friday.

I started refusing to say the pledge at about sixth grade, some for the reasons of others saying it wrong and so loudly I couldn't hear myself.

But the better part of it was I just didn't believe it anymore.

I wrote an essay in third grade about why I loved my country. It was well-written and prose-like. I wish I still had it. My English teacher gave me an award and through some means I ended up reading it at a convention of some sort, and received an award for that as well.

The things I wrote in that essay, some of it was true. People have died for our freedom, there's no denying that, but did they need to? Were there other means of peace that history (written by Caucasian males) isn't telling us?

Yes this is a beautiful country, a powerful country, we crushed many people getting where we are, and now most people don't appreciate that.

Personally, I want to leave the country, I've come to hate it so much.

I know what you mean. And I find it sad that so many of us here in the States want to find shelter in other country's arms (myself included, at times).

The 'war' going on right now that was supposed to have been over, what, a year ago? has been killing off our boys left and right. Mostly by 'friendly fire' and truck/plane crashes. It's not needed and our troops should have been home where they belong quite some time ago.

That war is a pissing contest between men in power. And it makes you wonder how many other wars were the exact same thing.

If the US would just start ignoring others more often, this wouldn't have happened, no attacks on us for being obnoxious and overpowering and intrustive.

We are not the leaders of civilised world, we'd have to be civilised first.

That needs to be beaten into politicians' brains.

While at times I have indeed thought about leaving, I love this country and what its supposed to stand for.

Leaving won't help America. Making sure to voice your displeasure and do something about it when possible, will.

I'd never leave the country due to my displeasure for something. Though I've thought about it, it's a bit like cowardice to do a thing like that. And I'm too stubborn to be a coward.

My entire county voted Kerry :\ Too bad the REST of Virginia didn't pitch in and do the same. /old fume.

I want to leave the country due to my unhappiness with living here. I've never felt I belonged here.

I'm not going sacrifice my happiness for trying to salvage something I just hate. This country is built upon nice principles, I just don't agree with them. I don't think that's the same as believing the country has just gone down the shitter and we need to get out.

See, that's different. And I respect that :D

You can come be a hermit with me XD

Hate hmm... Corrupt America has become. Too liberal and money driven it has become. We all must remember principles of the found fathers we must. New type of revolution must began. Yes, new revolution to bring it back to what it means to be a true American.

Those principles were spoon-fed to me as child, yes. Principles appreciate I do not. Care I not if country followed principles perfectly, would still leave.

A group, strong must become. One person cannot do it by self. Join to open eyes of those who run this country. No other country better then America as long as people who fight for those princibles are there. So fight for them we must.

I'm hardly ever anywhere near anything where they play/sing the anthem. So I don't get as bugged by that as I do/did with EVERY SINGLE FRIGGEN DAY I was in class growing up through grades one through twelve. And (seemingly) every single school function. So I kinda have more reason to be peeved at the pledge than the anthem :\

PS - It must be a northern thing because I've *never* heard anyone say anything other than pear-eh-la/oss, heh.
