I noticed your sheep site for children and I found a few errors. One really big one was that 'Animals that graze are called ruminants.' This, like a few other things, is not true.

Yes, sheep are ruminants, but not all grazing animals are ruminants. Animals that regurgitate their food, primarily graze, have cloven hooves (or an even number of toes) and have a stomach divided into four compartments are ruminants.

Horses graze, but they are not ruminants.
If there are other questions about sheep, please contact me -- I can set you straight. I am very happy you are attempting to teach the public about the livestock industry, sheep in particular, but you're not doing the public a good service when your information is incorrect.

Thanks for pointing out that oversight on our part. Of course ruminants are not the only animals who graze. That error will be corrected in the next few days. Please feel free to let us know of any other errors that we may have made on any of our websites.

Oh, believe me, there are so many other things I would love for them to change. It is my firm belief that they are a great portion of the reason why wool prices have dropped from $1.80 a pound in the '80s to $o.o8 a pound now, if you're lucky. They say that shearing sheep kills them/damages them, et cetera. I'm going to have it changed.

I just wanna know how shearing a sheep is any different than shearing a dog. More dogs are cut by owners trying to out off taking them to a groomer than groomers.

Something that's really potentilly damaging is shearing a matted long hair cat. :p Cat skin is like paper, and I've only nicked a cat's nippe once. I'm sure a sheep's skin is tougher.

There isn't any difference -- we actually shear our dogs when we shear our sheep. Most of the time with the same shears, sometimes we just use a pair of scissors or a smaller set of grooming shears. PETA is just trying to frighten the public by telling them that we kill sheep to get wool so we won't be able to keep the wool industry as a profitable thing. 'Oh noes, you wear wool, wool belongs on sheep... LET'S RUN AROUND NUDE!!!!1!1!11'

I swear, they are nothing but closet nudists.

I've never needed to really clip a kitty before... mum has shorn a fatter kitty a long time ago and didn't hurt her, but I can imagine how thin their skin is oO; white kits, you can see their viens and things pretty easily.

Skinny kitties are cut easier than fat ones... plus the fat ones have a harder time whipping around and biting. :D;

My clippers, as in the ones I got from grooming school, are aoubt 2 steps down from sheep shearers, the ones that my boss has down there are one step down.

Maybe I should start collecting dog hair and make dog fur sweaters or some shit. :p
